Title: SQL Weekend Crash Course (With CD-ROM)
Publisher: Hungry Minds
Authors: Allen G. Taylor
Rating: 5/5
A very good book for getting up to speed quickly - the examples are clearly laid out and meaningful- just a shame that none of the examples and sample data that the book and CD says are on the CD are actually on the CD
Title: Professional PHP4 Programming
Publisher: Wrox Press
Authors: Deepak Thomas, Wankyu Choi, John Coggeshall, Ken Egervari, Martin Geisler, Zak Greant, Andrew Hill, Chris Hubbard, James Moore, Devon O'Dell, Jon Parise, Harish Rawat, Tarique Sani, Christopher Scollo, Chris Ullman, et al
Rating: 3/5
There are a lot of good concepts here but many of them are poorly explained. This book has about a dozen authors and you never are able to settle down and feel comfortable with the way any of the chapters are written. Check out Programming PHP as an alternate.
Title: Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Database Implementation Training Kit (Training Kit)
Publisher: Microsoft Press Rating: 5/5
Great book for regular work reference for SQL Server directly related topics, but if you needed to drill down to the details, the best source is definitely SQL Books Online. The book assumes RDBMS logical design knowledge, and the exam drills you on it. Unlike other exams, if you don't have actual experiences with any RDBMS, you won't pass.I have used this book, BOL and Transcenders to help me pass the exam on first try. I still love this book and its very useful from time to time.
Title: MCSE Administering SQL Server 7 Exam Cram (Exam: 70-028)
Publisher: Coriolis Group Books
Authors: Jeffrey Garbus, David Pascuzzi, Alvin Chang
Rating: 1/5
The worst exam cram in the universe. I don't think these guys have any idea about the test or how to prepare for it. Don't even waste your breath asking for the title at the book store, and if somebody hands you a copy for free simply tell them that they can throw it out themselves.
Title: Professional SQL Server 7.0 Programming
Publisher: Wrox Press
Authors: Rob Vieira
Rating: 5/5
This has replaced 'Transact-SQL' as my favourite SQL Server book. Written by a programmer for a programmer. This is probably one of very few 1000+ pages non-reference technical books where 1000+ pages is just about the right size. He doesn't pad, talks down or preaches (too much) but gives quite a lot of good practical advise. I would normally be happy if I found 40% of a technical book useful, in this case I would probably read the whole book again just because ...I want more.
Title: Real World SQL Server Administration with Perl

This book contains a lot of good and practical perl code. It really help me a lot.
Title: The Guru's Guide to SQL Server Stored Procedures, XML, and HTML (With CD-ROM)
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional
Authors: Ken Henderson
Rating: 5/5
A better title for this book would be "Stored Procedures for Experts." It is that good. If you are already an expert and want to take your game to the next level or want to become a stored proc expert, you need this book. Each chapter gets progressively more complex and in-depth. Henderson starts off with a primer on stored proc development, then gradually raises the bar until you are up in the clouds. The best chapters are the xprocs chapter and the design patterns chapter. Each of these is with the price of the book alone.I also loved the essays at the end of the book, especially the one on the necessity of testing. Henderson writes in a fluid, even style that I think most will find quite engaging.

Title: The Administrator's Guide to Microsoft SQL Server 6.5
Publisher: 29th Street Press
Authors: Kevin Cox, William Jones, Bill Jones
Rating: 5/5
This book is an excellent start to learning how to use SQL Server v6.5. It gives an overview of the features that the SQL Administrator would need to know for handling day-to-day tasks and problems with it.I thoroughly recommend this book. Well worth the money! Easy to understand for both beginners and advanced users.
Title: A Programmer's Introduction to PHP 4.0
Publisher: Apress
Authors: W. Jason Gilmore
Rating: 5/5
This book starts with the understanding that you know how to write programs. It gets right into the particulars, without bogging you down in the details of what conditionals or objects are. There are a few holes though, so I would suggest getting a more detailed book like the "PHP 4 Bible", by Tim Converse and Joyce Park from IDG Books, as a supplemental reference.
