Title: Google Hacks
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Tara Calishain, Rael Dornfest
Rating: 5/5
Excellent tips for the Google user in all of us. Well written and well organized. Like all books in print, though, it doesn't include some of the latest neat developments, like the free tracking service Google Alert... Author Calishain does mention these new ones in her recent articles. Overall, highly recommended!
Title: MCSE Training Guide: SQL Server 6.5 Administration (Covers Exam #70-026)
Publisher: New Riders Pub
Authors: Brad McGehee, Chris Miller, Wayne Smith, Deanna Townsend, Stephen Wynkoop
Rating: 3/5
This is not the only book you should have! Lots of material considering reference integrity are NOT well cover (1 paragraph). Answers to question are frequently wrong and NOT as well written as the Sybex books. Take your chances here.
Title: PHP Fast & Easy Web Development, 2nd Edition
Publisher: Muska & Lipman/Premier-Trade
Authors: Julie C. Meloni
Rating: 4/5
Please note that the second edition is fundamentally similar to the first edition, with several added chapters. The biggest change is that the code is written to assume register_globals = Off, which is the new default in PHP as of version 4.2.1. If you have any questions, are looking for errata or downloadable code, please see the book website at thickbook.com or contact me for a pointer. Best,
Julie
Title: MCDBA SQL Server 2000 All-in-One Exam Guide (Book/CD Set)
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Companies
Authors: Dave Perkovich
Rating: 1/5
This book lacks so much crucial information needed to pass the exam. I read the first half which covered 228 and then grabbed the readiness review and was shocked at how little information the All-in-One book covered. I'm not even going to bother reading the second half for 229, and am looking for another title before attempting the 228 exam.
Title: Sams Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes, Third Edition
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Ben Forta
Rating: 5/5
I was learning how to use ColdFusion and I quickly realized that I needed to have a good knowledge of SQL to succeed with CF. I picked up SQL in Ten Minutes, read it on the train, and came back with the ability to code basic queries and post informaition to the database. Every concept is clearly explained, but there are (thankfully) no long-winded examples to follow, so you get what you need and get out. I also recommend it as a reference book, although it does not explain every keyword in SQL, such as "ONCE." But it's small and will not take up a lot of space on your desk or briefcase.
Title: Php Fast & Easy Web Development (Fast & Easy Web Development)
Publisher: Premier Press
Authors: Julie C. Meloni
Rating: 5/5
As a young web developer I picked this book up at a local bookstore wanting to push myself forward and expand my knowledge in Web Development. I bought the book because it is soooo easy to understand. Each line has a detailed description explaining what it is doing, and why. This book is very easy to understand and I picked up on it easily, the unique web-apps are fun to create, and make you think on how you can improve them, or use it in your own creation. As a final note, I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about PHP, or just want something new to play around with.
Title: PHP and MySQL Web Development
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Luke Welling, Laura Thomson
Rating: 5/5
This is a extremely good book to learn PHP and MySQL from scratch, as I did. It provides absolutely wonderful real-world examples, and half the book is full of complete projects ranging from creating your own forums, to making your own web-based email service. Very well done. The only gripe I have with it is that I wish it went deeper into session control using PHP.
Title: PHP Advanced for the World Wide Web Visual QuickPro Guide

I have read several books on PHP and MYSQL and I would like to say this is the best book I have read on the subject. Not only does the author explain what everything is, he also puts everything in examples that are easy to read and to comprehend. If you have some PHP and MYSQL knowledge and would like to expand on your knowledge without paying a lot or waste your time reading for hours, this is a great book for you. It will get you up and going in no time.

This is the best book covering this subject I've read. It's really, really well written by people who knows what use to be the most difficult parts. They must be teachers and experts - at the top of both lists! It gave me understanding of this subject and helped me a lot in my own teaching.
