Title: SQL Unleashed, Second Edition (2nd Edition)
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Sakhr Youness
Rating: 5/5
I love this book. Highly informative and fun to read. It makes difficult concepts understandable. The book has clarified many questions I previously head. If you buy only one book on SQL, then buy this one. Of all my books that discuss SQL, this one is the best.
Title: Microsoft Access Projects with Microsoft SQL Server
Publisher: Microsoft Press
Authors: Ralf Albrecht, Natascha Nicol, Dr. Natasha Nicol
Rating: 5/5
Dont waste your money. I got this today in the post. After a quick look when they install of all things SQL Server 7, I looked at the rest of the book. A new book which is available and written WHEN A2002 and SQL Server 2000 where available and this is the result. Save your money and download books online or buy SQL Access to SQL Server published by Apress. In one section that book has more useful information that this entire volume. MS Press seem to be throwing a book at everything lately and quality was bound to suffer. Pity it was an important area like ADPs that suffered. Me, I am returning this for a refund tomorrow. More useful information on MSDN.
Title: PHP and MySQL Web Development
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Luke Welling, Laura Thomson
Rating: 5/5
I have a pretty good collection of books on PHP. This is the best of the group. It covers both PHP and MySQL in a manner that a novice (who understands HTML) can gather but covers the subjects in a reasonable depth. I particulary like that the authors have managed to make the book both a reference and a tutorial and have done a good job of both. It's not the end all of books on the subject but it is probably the best single volume reference out there.
Title: Data Warehousing With Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Technical Reference (Microsoft Technical Reference)
Publisher: Microsoft Pr
Authors: Jake Sturm
Rating: 3/5
This is an excellent book. It has three detailed chapters on MDX, good descriptions on how to build data warehouses with SQL 7, a discussion on DTS, and includes an introductory chapter on OLAP for those not familiar with it. Great chapter on optimizing a SQL DW, too. My only negative comment is that I found chapter 9 wasn't that useful, and read it after I read the other chapters. I also skipped the code sample in the appendix. Everything else in the book is good. I highly recommend the book.
Title: OCP Developer PL/SQL Program Units Exam Guide
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media
Authors: Steve O'Hearn
Rating: 3/5
Pros:
The book touchs all the topics required for the OCA exam.
Cons:
Some of the questions in the practise exams in the book need improvement, especially the answers to the questions is vague.
Similar is the case with the quesions in the CD accompaning the book.
Conclusion: This book with some help from Oracle documentation should get one through the exam. But do not rely on the practise question in the book.
Title: How to Do Everything with Google
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media
Authors: Fritz Schneider, Nancy Blachman, Eric Fredricksen, Fritz Schneider, Nancy Blachman, Eric Fredricksen
Rating: 5/5
Searching with Google is easy but the web is a maze. This book teaches very quickly and easily how to navigate the maze and find what you want using Google features, some which are often overlooked. It is a big time-saver. And the book is written very well. Great for web developers seeking to increase visits to their site as well as for individuals who use Google daily to look up information.
Title: Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Database Implementation Training Kit (Training Kit)
Publisher: Microsoft Press Rating: 3/5
I used this as my main resource for studying for 70-028 (along with practice tests by STSWare and the online books). This was my last test for my MCSE and I passed first time, but only just. The test requires much more detail than this study guide (or STSWare) supplies. You really need to get down to the mechanics of how the various features of SQL Server work. This book just didn't supply it.My advice is either to use this and spend a lot of time reading the online books or wait until there are better third party study guides that are based on the release version of SQL Server (not the beta as most of them are at present) and the actual tests.
Title: Php 4 Bible (Bible (Wiley))
Publisher: Hungry Minds
Authors: Tim Converse, Joyce Park

Title: Oracle8i DBA: SQL and PL/SQL Certification Bible
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Damir Bersinic, Stephen Giles, Susan Ibach, Myles Brown
Rating: 5/5
This book set me on the right path! Having had no experience with Oracle, I had study only this book, went through its practice questions and lab exercises, and in 1-1/2 month's time, I passed my first exam with flying colors! If anyone is interested in becoming a OCP for Oracle9i and want to also validate your skills in PL/SQL, this book will definitely help you pass your first test. There are some example and question errors in this books, but most are not essential, or are at least noticeable. In any case, it delivers the results and I have nothing but high regards for it.
Title: Professional PHP Programming
Publisher:
Authors: Jesus Castagnetto, Sascha Schumann, Harish Rawat, Chris Scollo, Deepak T. Veliath
Rating: 2/5
This book might be worthwhile as a classroom workbook where you go through each and every chapter in order. As a book for somebody who wants to get things done this book is terrible. You have to wade through entire chapters to find what you want and the index is useless. For my real world projects I have never found what I wanted to know in this book. You are better off just looking at online documentation. It is also out of date and lacks coverage of sessions (there is a newer edition of the book that might include this but I am not going to buy it).
