Title: Sams Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes, Third Edition
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Ben Forta
Rating: 5/5
After searching for a solid SQL book for beginners, this is by far the best book I've found. It covers just enough advanced topics to help you get through those first-time subqueries. It's a great building block and has bailed me out of many a jam. Case in point: I couldn't get a subquery to work properly and doubted that this book wasn't advanced enough. I finally caved in and thumbed through the advanced topics and located the answer to my problem. Absolutely worth the price, and then some.
Title: PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide
Publisher: Peachpit Press
Authors: Larry Ullman
Rating: 4/5
Very clear and consise and great examples that you can easily translate to work you're doing. I already have half a dozen ideas for some sites I'm working on now. One minor (actually major) quibble. Could we have at least used current HTML standards in the examples in the book? I mean tables have been depreciated for at least a couple of years now...
Title: SQL Server 7 Data Warehousing
Publisher: Osborne Publishing
Authors: Michael J. Corey, Michael Abbey, Ian Abramson, Larry Barnes, Benjamin Taub, Rajan Venkitachalam
Rating: 4/5
When I purchased this book it was with the intent of learning what a data warehouse is and how best to implement one from a conceptual level. It has accomplished that goal admirably. If you are a seasoned SQL person and want to know what the DW buzz is about, buy it. If you are an IS executive trying to make a decision on how best to proceed with your own warehouse, but it. However, if you are looking for a How-To guide for on the serious implementation details (ie: DTS), you should go over the fundamentals of SQL 7 somewhere else.

Title: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Weekend Crash Course
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Alex Kriegel
Rating: 4/5
I am a certified system administrator and I never had the time to study SQL. Finally I decided to sit down and learn ,I ordered a few books trying to build a nice and gradual study course. The book I satrted with is the Weekend Crash Course. I am very happy to say that I found a book that explains basics with good examples thus giving me a smooth start...What I like about this book is that on one hand it doesn't intimidate you as a newbie to a system that is obviously huge and on the other hand it provides you with an adequete level of knowledge to feel that you have gained knowledge.
Title: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media
Authors: Brian Larson
Rating: 5/5
I started reading this book when first toying with Reporting Services. I found another book that I thought did a better job. However, when I was actually having to professionally use Reporting Services and produce results, I had totally different questions and found my way back to this book. It was amazing how each question that I had was now being answered simplistically and accurately allowing me to satisfy my client and learn a new tool. This is the book to use to bring the power of Reporting Services to life.
