This should be the Number 1 Best Seller! There is just not enough advertising out on this book! Some marketeer needs to pick up this book and run with it on commission.I have two other books on PHP. One for PHP3 and One for PHP4. I had a bit of trouble with the other two, a friend suggested this one and WOW it has made things so simple. This book will jump start you into PHP no matter what level you are at!Thanks to the Author Julie, this is the best book I have ever read in programming. Title: Database-SQL-Rdbms Howto: Postgresql Object Relational Database System
Publisher: Iuniverse Inc
Authors: Al Dev
Rating: 1/5
Nothing new in this book. Lots of errors and problems. It looks as though it was thrown together very quickly and without a lot of thought. Stick with Bruce Momjian's book as an intro and good reference.
Title: Sams Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes, Third Edition
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Ben Forta
Rating: 5/5
As a ColdFusion developer, I'm used to carried around heavy tomes. This particular book is small, easy to read, and cuts directly to information you need to know for basic SQL design. In addition to covering all the basics, Ben Forta points out where syntax differes from one database (Access, Oracle, SQL Server) to another.I recommend it to all my student programmers and co-workers. I also use it as a reference guide. It's a relief to carry a book that doesn't strain my backpack, too!
Title: The Guru's Guide to Transact-SQL
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional
Authors: Ken Henderson
Rating: 5/5
Henderson has hit one over the fence with this one. I wish I'd had this book about five years ago when I started coding in Transact-SQL. Want to know how to perform OLE Automation from T-SQL? Get this book. Need to compute the financial median of a million value set with a SELECT statement? Get this book. Want to know all there is to know about T-SQL performance and tuning? This one's for you. Need to know all the idiosynchrasies of transactions and cursors? Look no further. This is exactly the book I've been hoping to find for years. It's far better than any other T-SQL book out there. It's well written, full of valuable example code, and authored by someone who's obviously a guru in his own right.
Title: Hands On SQL Server 7 with VB6 (Hands on)
Publisher: Premier Press
Authors: Wayne S. Freeze
Rating: 3/5
The title of the books is about SQL Server 7.0 and vb 6.0. And for the first 8 or 9 chapters that is the case. But then the Author as of about chapter 11, goes off on a tangent about IIS and ASP web based applications. After chapter 11 the code examples start getting really complicated and hard to follow. He also has a tendency to jump around a lot and throws a lot of really complicated ASP/IIS vb code at you really fast. I think it would have been a much better book and easier to follow had he held the reader's hand a bit more and had taken you step by step through the sample application he developed. In the begginning he did that to some extent but towards the end he really went bonkers. If he had put the sample application in a format like 1.first do this 2. then follow this instruction 3. And finally do this and you are now through and then explained everything as he went along in very indepth detail this book would have been worth it's weight in gold or platinum.
Title: Professional SQL Server 2000 Programming
Publisher: Wrox
Authors: Robert Vieira
Rating: 4/5
This book is actually really good. I thought Database programming and design would be one of the most boring things I've ever studied in my life, but with this book it was actually quite interesting. They would do well to trim off about 200 pages, but otherwise it's good. I don't like the fact that the book holds your hand so much, but I guess it's understandable since the target audience is people who have never done any database programming. If you're looking for a good introductory book to dealing with SQL Server from a non API standpoint (as in dealing directly with the Enterprise Manager, etc), then you can't really go wrong with this book.

Title: Building Microsoft(r) SQL Server(r) 7 Applications with COM
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
Authors: Sanjiv Purba
Rating: 3/5
I couldn't find source code for this book on publisher's web site. That mean to test those code I have to type all code myself. If I had know it I wouldn't buy this book. I thought this is commone scense for reader to expect the code is either come with an attached CD or can be downloaded.
Title: Writing Apache Modules with Perl and C
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Lincoln Stein, Doug MacEachern
Rating: 5/5
Anybody who is interested in writing apache modules, MUST buy this book...Its very straight forward, focuses only on things that are related to writing modules in both Perl and C, and has very useful functions index, you can look up a function or a constant, the book explains all methods and gives examples on how to use tricky ones...I mostly use it for my C modules, and found very easy example of parsing ARGs of query strings, which is to my surprise not in apache lib...I am impressed.
Title: Php Fast & Easy Web Development (Fast & Easy Web Development)
Publisher: Premier Press
Authors: Julie C. Meloni
Rating: 3/5
The step-by-step instructions and code samples are great for the beginning programmer, but there is no code overview which lists the entire program in its completion. This makes it harder for a beginner programmer to get to the next level, as they can't understand the big picture, seeing how the pieces fit together. The captions, labels, and descriptions, though, make it easy for almost anyone to pickup.
