Title: MySQL/PHP Database Applications
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Jay Greenspan, Brad Bulger
Rating: 4/5
While the examples are great and the topic coverage is excellent, there are 2 or more typos on almost every page. It looks like they were in such a hurry to get the thing out the door that quality control was not a consideration. The typos aren't just in the text; they are quite common in the examples. For instance, when showing an example of a "contact" table, the text refers to contacts while the example shows contracts. There are missing "_"'s in the data names and PHP and SQL syntax mistakes throughout.Given that, if you are willing to debug the text and the examples, you'll find 99% of what you will need to know to be able to create a database driven website with Apache/PHP/MySQL.If you need the information now, buy it. If you can, I'd wait for the second edition; perhaps they can reduce the mistakes.sj
Title: PHP and MySQL Web Development, Second Edition
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Luke Welling, Laura Thomson
Rating: 3/5
This book is so cool! As a beginner in PHP I leaned a lot in this book. The price is reasonable. I wish all books are like this "by example type", like the PHP book by Julie Melonie that book also rocks!.
Title: MySQL/PHP Database Applications
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Jay Greenspan, Brad Bulger
Rating: 2/5
It seemed as though this book was meant for people that already have a understanding of the foundation of PHP. Basic programming skills are definitely required. The introduction chapter dives you right into some PHP script that I copied verbatim and got an error result. Im returning the book.

I bought this book in hopes of it being a little bit more advanced, not to say that I didn't learn much, and the author's more visual aproach is something that I enjoyed. Title: Visual Basic Developer's Guide to E-Commerce with ASP and SQL Server
Publisher: Sybex Inc
Authors: Noel Jerke
Rating: 5/5
Although title says developer's guide but it makes a reader from novice to developer. Before that e-commerce was complicated, difficult even reading other books makes you confuse more about the subject but after reading this whole concept becomes clear. In my opinion Only prerequisite for reading this book is some databases experiance, it will accelarate if reader have experiance in Access, Sql server. The 99 percent Use of stored procedure is one of the greatest thing by Noel. I have built my web site base on concept and examples given in this book. Though there might be some minor errors but I think they make you learn and eventualy they make you master the vb script, stored procedure and concept.
I congrulate Noel and request him to upgrade this book to Asp.net and vb.net as well as other of his book named e-commerce developer's guide to building community tools. Thanks Noel
Title: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Administrator's Companion (With CD-ROM)
Publisher: Microsoft Press
Authors: Marcilina Garcia, Jamie Reding, Edward Whalen, Steve Adrien DeLuca
Rating: 2/5
I wish that the two most recent reviews of this book had been written before I bought this book. This book is a waste of time. As the other two reviewers have stated, the majority of the book is stepping the user through Wizards. How anybody can call this a good book for experienced DBA's is beyond me. Anybody who is technical or has a lot of experience will find this book a waste of time and money. I will definitely be waiting for more reviews of Microsoft Press books before I buy them again in the future. I think that I must have bought this because it was one of the first books to be released on SQL 2000.If I had to say something good about this book, it is graphically pleasing. Lots of pictures of the screens as it steps you through the wizards. This book might help a lot if you're the company stud at Excel and they suddenly promote you to network administrator and you're looking at SQL for the first time. This book is defintely a newbie book.
Title: The Guru's Guide to SQL Server Stored Procedures, XML, and HTML (With CD-ROM)
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional
Authors: Ken Henderson
Rating: 5/5
This book took me from being someone who couldn't even spell XML to a guy who has just finished his third major SQLXML application. I'm not an expert yet, but the author of this book is, and if you work with SQLXML, you owe it to yourself to read this book.Ironically I was originally recommended this book based on it's stored proc content. That was also excellent, but the real prize here are the chapters on SQLXML.The first chapter, the XML introduction chapter, is simply genius. The example start off easy and build on each other. By the time I finished this chapter, I was creating complex documents and using style sheets and schemas to manipulate them. The SQLXML chapters take each of the Sql Server SQLXML topics and explore them in depth. The templates coverage is particularly excellent. I loved the discussion of how templates make use of RPC - something I'd never have guessed but that makes a huge performance difference in one of my systems. The section on working around SQLXML limitations is also excellent. sp_run_xml_proc is literally worth the price of the book all by itself. I was really disappointed when I found that I couldn't insert the results of a FOR XML query directly into a variable or table. With this proc, I can.

This book is a good overview for a beginner. Nothing too fancy. There are quite a few editing mistakes, though.
