Title: SQL Bible
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Alex Kriegel, Boris M. Trukhnov
Rating: 5/5
I bought this book because it was cheaper than 'SQL: The Complete Reference' and I am using it mainly as a reference tool, syntax, structure, inner/outer joins (I always forget how it works), etc.I needed to do an Update and wanted to find out the correct structure and looked it up in the Index, which had this listing:'updating. See modifying'I am being picky, but I would expect the index to have an actual page reference to the Update Statement, instead of having to go to another section. I am concerned about other short comings within the book.
Title: Foundation PHP for Flash
Publisher: Friends of Ed
Authors: Steve Webster
Rating: 4/5
Good Book used it as a lecture tool for my Web Developer Class. So it worked great can't say it is an easy read. But has some interesting projects that are very pratical. Not a book for people who like pretty pictures. This is a very code oriented book.

I had no clue about what reporting services are! After reading this book it gave me a quick overview of what it is all about. Then I bought another book to go into the details..
Title: SQL for Dummies
Publisher: For Dummies
Authors: Allen G. Taylor
Rating: 1/5
This book helps to "demystify" SQL. Before I started reading this and also "Learn SQL in 10 Minutes," by Ben Forta, I had a mortal fear of databases, one that thanks to this book I now realize is totally unfounded. This book has a lot of good technical information about SQL, but it's presented in a way that makes it easy to understand and won't "scare off" the beginners like me. I liked how the author took great pains to explain a lot of SQL commands, making them relate to the topic being discussed. The first two chapters cover relational database and SQL fundamentals. The next few chapters discuss more details about SQL, first its "languages," then how to build a SQL database, and once it's built how to retrieve data from it, and also issues relating to keeping it secure. Generally, a good "Dummies" book on a complex subject.

Title: MCSE Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database Design and Implementation: Readiness Review Exam 70-229 (Pro-Certification)
Publisher: Microsoft Press
Authors: Sharon Bjeletich, Eddy Hahn
Rating: 3/5
This book is just a test book.
If you are able to pass all the tests in the CD, then you will not have problems with the real test. However, as always, some ot the questions are wrong.
The software for the test is not so good, if you just take the test for the third time, half of the questions will be known to you.
Since the main reason you buy this book, is to check your preparation pro-certification, i think i can give it 3 on 5 stars.
If you are italian, you should not take the italian version of the book, it is just written in something different from a language for IT professionals.
Title: Beginning PHP5, Apache, and MySQL Web Development
Publisher: Wrox
Authors: Elizabeth Naramore, Jason Gerner, Yann Le Scouarnec, Jeremy Stolz, Michael K. Glass
Rating: 5/5
If I were just starting off to do a dynamic page web site, that is database driven, this is exactly the software set that I would use. And here in one book is the majority of the software that you'd need to make it work. The only things missing are the operating system (Linux of course) and the mail package.
The nice thing about having all this in one package is that you have a consistent form of writing from software package to package. And you have a consistent set of needs. You don't need to talk about MySQL in business applications, you only need to know how it works in a web environment.
This is a programmer to programmer, beginner level book. It does not spend much time on the actual installation of the programs. I rate this as OK, because many of the Linux books (yes, you also have to have a Linux book) provide a distribution of Linux that include all of this software with instructions on how to install it. This book then picks up with comments on configuring the installation to best suit, this includes things like making PHP point to MySQL which may be lacking in the general installation instructions of the Linux book.
If you are headed to working with AMP (Apache, MySQL & PHP) this is an excellent place to start. It's well written, leads you through the building of a site, and by the end of the book you are well started.
Title: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Weekend Crash Course

Rating: 5/5
If you are looking for a book that will provide overview of SQL Server 2000 without diving into too many details - This is the book for you!
This book glances through all the main features of SQL Server 2000, providing a very good introduction to all of them. SQL Server 2000 is a very complex, feature rich product. This book does a wonderful job of explaining the various features with out going to too many details that 99% of the users will not need anyway.
I especially liked the sections about performance tuning, optimizations and automating administration tasks that provide easy to understand information about those advanced SQL Server features.
If you are a full time job SQL Server DBA, you will probably want a more in depth book. All other SQL Server users - Go get this book!
Title: Professional SQL Server 2000 Programming

Authors: Robert Vieira
Rating: 5/5
I have purchased and reviewed many SQL Server 2000 books and hands down this is the best MS SQL Server book you can purchase. It is not for the faint of heart it is long and detailed but it is presented in such away understanding is easy. I used this book as the foundation of my study for MS SQL Test 70-229 and believe me no other book can touch it for exam preparation. Even though its not an approve study guide it prepares you for real world SQL programming and will get you through the test. Great work WROX and I will buy you SQL books anytime.
Title: MCSE Administering SQL Server 7 Exam Prep (Exam: 70-028)
Publisher: Coriolis Group Books
Authors: Brian Talbert
Rating: 5/5
I thanked god for this book! I took the SQL Admin 5 day Microsoft training course. It was no help at all. I purchased the SQL Exam Cram book, but very little help. This was my last exam to pass the MCSE course and I thought I had made a big mistake in taking this elective until I found Administering SQL Server 7 by Exam Prep. I am now an MCSE. Thank you Brian Talbert.
