Title: Beginning Visual Basic SQL Server 7.0
Publisher: Wrox Press
Authors: Thearon Willis
Rating: 5/5
This is absolutely the best technical book I have read. The book takes an intermediate Visual Basic programmer with no knowledge of database programming and provides the knowledge in a clear and easy to follow format. The examples on working with SQL Server Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, and how to call Stored Procedures and inline SQL statements are excellent.I wish I could give the book six stars.
Title: Building Your Business with Google For Dummies
Publisher: For Dummies
Authors: Brad Hill
Rating: 5/5
Hi, I am an author of SEO book myself. I enjoyed reading this book. It is well rounded broad SEO book. It covers end user search tips, some general search engine ranking tip and information on Google Adwords, Adsense, and Froogle. This is a book that covers a wide area. If you want more specific details on how to improve your search engine rank I would recommend reading Google Hacks Exposed: Improving Your Rank on Google.

Jerke does an excellent job of explaining all of the key concepts and programming techniques of building an E-Commmerce store with ASP and SQL server. There are a few minor code glitches but the author has anwers to these on his web site. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Title: Advanced Transact-SQL for SQL Server 2000
Publisher: Apress
Authors: Itzik Ben-Gan, Tom Moreau
Rating: 1/5
Whatever caused these guys to think they had an advanced book here? This is strictly a beginner's book, and a poor one at that. As some of the other reviews have pointed out, the prose is fairly horrible and definitely indicates a problem with English as a language. More importantly, though, is the fact that there's little here that isn't also in the BOL (Books Online) that come with SQL Server. I was also put off by how weak the SQL 2000 coverage is. There are a good number of new features/functions/etc. in SQL 2000's Transact-SQL that aren't in this book. If you're going to regurgitate the vendor's online docs, the least you could do is do a complete job of it!
Title: Apache Axis Live: A Web Services Tutorial
Publisher: Sourcebeat
Authors: James Goodwill
Rating: 5/5
I apologize, but this book is not available on this site right now as we switch print vendors. It will take a few weeks to cycle the vendor back onto this site, but in the meantime you can order the print version on lulu dot com slash sourcebeat. Thank you for your patience, and I will remove this review once it is available again on this site.
Title: Professional PHP4 XML
Publisher: Peer Information
Authors: Luis Argerich, Chris Lea, Ken Egervari, Matt Anton, Chris Hubbard, James Fuller, Charlie Killian
Rating: 4/5
Wrox Press seem to have become masters at putting together volumes from a large number of authors. This 600-page volume is another example. This way of working does have some drawbacks, there is a little repetition of some basic stuff throughout the book, but not enough to truly detract from it. The book, after some expository material, details 11 projects of increasing complexity. They use PHP, MySQL, PEAR::DB, Smarty and PHPLib. The target audience, according to the book jacket, are programmers who already have a good knowledge of PHP, SQL Databases and XML. Frankly, I think they overdo the amount of experience you need to use and benefit from this book. If you are on top of all those topics well enough to consider yourself ¡°professional¡± then this book may be too simple. If, on the other hand, you are, like me, conversant with PHP and SQL but would like to take yourself up to ¡°professional¡± use of technologies like XML, templating and WAP enabling then this book will be good
Title: Oracle PL/SQL Programming, Third Edition
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Steven Feuerstein
Rating: 5/5
O'Reilly publishes good reference books. I always look for one of their books first when I am looking for a book in a given subject area. No one book in their Oracle series has it all, though. Each book covers it's subject area in depth...just make sure you get the right book! If you like the "Whatever For Dummies" kind of books, then O'Reilly books aren't for you. My only knock is that there are more books in the Oracle series than is really necessary...marketing at it's worst! Some of the seperate PL/SQL related books should have been combined into one volume.
