Title: SQL: The Complete Reference, Second Edition
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media
Authors: James R Groff, Paul N. Weinberg
Rating: 4/5
The software alone is well worth the price of this book. The publisher supplies you with all 5 major DB's. SQl Server, Oracle 8i, DB2, Sybase, and Informix. If your a newbie I suggest Sam's SQL in 10 minutes. Together these two books make a great combo.

1. too many errors2. the codes don't work.. and you don't get support from the team that put them together... you will have to be overly nice to even here... "Oh! we will get back to you" from them3. Full e-commerce app? what is an e-commerce system without a checkout feature? they basically leave out all the meat and expect you to work at the same projects you bought the book for on your ownbasically, looks more like a couple of tutorials taken from the internet and thrown together in the form of a book in a hurry to capture the market before a better one does. LEAVE IT ON THE SHELF!!
Title: MySQL/PHP Database Applications
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Jay Greenspan, Brad Bulger
Rating: 5/5
Being a Civil Engineer by training, I needed a book that quickly put me into PHP/MySQL with the least possible hassle and maximum efficiency. This book did it! I started just reading through without highlight anything (to be able to return it if not convinced), but liked it much that by Chapter 2, I put my name on the book.I would certainly recommend it to people with little or some programming experience that are more comfortable with a procedural approach. Starting from zero knowledge of PHP, I read the book in about three weeks and got the shopping cart operating in about five, great for someone like me doing this as a hobby.Areas where this book can be improved is its managment and explanations regarding Regular Expressions. Also, the section in the Appendix that deals with intalling Apache web server needs improvement. Jay, you need to walk the reader step by step (as you do in the body of the book) through the coldness of Apache. Is kind'a scary to have a DOS window in Windows with Apache sitting right there with no clue of what's next! I look forward to Jay's 2nd edition of this book to see this corrected.Good job Jay!
Title: Oracle PL/SQL 101
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media
Authors: Christopher Allen
Rating: 5/5
This excellent work starts at the beginning and methodically steps through every important feature of SQL and PL/SQL. It gives a perfect basis for learning how to write SQL statements and PL/SQL code. The last two chapters cover procedures, packages, triggers...all the core programming tools in PL/SQL. Every chapter has dozens of exercises designed to help you practice the techniques and get them into your mental tool set.Good next steps after this book might be "PL/SQL Programming" for complete programming nerds, or one of the Oracle Press exam guides for those wanting to get certified. Trying to squeeze those things into this book would have made it too big to print!
Title: Mastering Oracle SQL
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Sanjay Mishra, Alan Beaulieu
Rating: 4/5
It's a good book but it misses a beat here and there on the more difficult topics. It is worth a try, as all the Oracle books are silly.
Title: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Administrator's Companion (With CD-ROM)
Publisher: Microsoft Press
Authors: Marcilina Garcia, Jamie Reding, Edward Whalen, Steve Adrien DeLuca
Rating: 2/5
Unfortunately I have to disagree with other reviewers. I didn't find this book particulary useful. Half the space is devoted to snapshots from Enterprise Manager and walking through its wizards. It is probably an OK book if you are completely new to SQL Server, but if you have a couple of years behind your back, don't waste money. Very little coverage of new features in SQL2000 (UDF's, INSTEAD OF triggers, Cascading DRI, Partitioned views, etc.) I was unpleasantly surprised that such weak book was produced by the same team of authors who wrote a real gem: "SQL7 Performance Tuning Technical Reference". Get back on track, guys!Michael Neymit, MCSE, MCDBA
Title: Php Fast & Easy Web Development (Fast & Easy Web Development)
Publisher: Premier Press
Authors: Julie C. Meloni
Rating: 4/5
this book is for people who want to learn basic php capabilities... guides and examples are so few and you can use php after few days... but the problem with this book is that it's not complete and if you want to become a professional in php i don't recommend it to you
Title: Apache Server for Windows Little Black Book: The Indispensable Guide to Day-to-Day Apache Server Tips and Techniques
Publisher: Coriolis Group Books
Authors: Matt Keller, Matthew Keller, Greg Holden
Rating: 3/5
I bought this book, and I found that Apache did not have the Version decribed in this book available for me to download. This book was good for me only with the basic command just to make a web site up and running, but was not good for me in configuring CGI, access control, and other complicated usages.Apache has updated its version frequently. So, you will have difficulties using instructions from this book with Apache of today versions. Get newer Apache books if you can. I also wish the author writes a new and updated version though.
Title: Apache Server 2 Bible
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Mohammed J. Kabir
Rating: 2/5
The book helped me get my Apache server up and running and also helped me understand the various server directives. Some of the later chapters look like they will be useful. The author was very responsive to a couple of questions I had and mentioned that he would be setting up a web site covering Linux and Apache, with Q&A, etc. This will be helpful in keeping up with the various changes that occur with new versions of Apache.
