Title: MCSE Training Kit: Microsoft(r) SQL Server(tm) 2000 System Administration
Publisher: Microsoft Press
Authors: Microsoft Corporation
Rating: 5/5
It was a pleasant experience reading through the entire book. All my knowledge regarding SQL are rewinded along with new features appeared in SQL Server 2000 (which I already worked on it for about a year) in a series rigorous statements. Since citrified on version 6.5 in 1998, I worked soly arround MS SQL as an administrator and developer these years. This book is one of the best among my readings.
Title: PHP Fast & Easy Web Development, 2nd Edition
Publisher: Muska & Lipman/Premier-Trade
Authors: Julie C. Meloni
Rating: 5/5
This is a great book to start out with. It tells you what you need to know to start using PHP very quickly. Within 2 hours I was writing my own PHP scripts. I would not recommend it for experienced users.I had never written any PHP, C or Java before this - I had been brought up on Pascal, some VB and lost of System/370 assembler and Rexx. I had a clear understanding of web sites and html and I would now say that I am now a fairly competent PHP programmer. The book explains very clearly how to set up Apache, MySQL and PHP on your Windows or Linux system and takes you through some examples. It also points you at further sources on the web then once you are going, the book becomes fairly redundant.
Title: Inside Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (With CD-ROM)
Publisher: Microsoft Press
Authors: Kalen Delaney
Rating: 5/5
First of all, let me strongly disagree with low rates that some other reviewers gave to this book. I don't think it's correct to lower the rating just because the contents didn't change much since "Inside SQL Server 7". SQL Server 2000 is very much like SQL Server 7.0 (adding XML is the only major difference). It's a companion to the product, so it should be just a next iteration of "Inside SQL Server" series. Then it seems that some reviewers probably expected to find how to program SQL Server using ADO, XML, ODBC etc, and instead only found a description of internals. While I agree that the books should have covered XML implementation better, I'd remind that the title of the book is "INSIDE SQL Server"! And I was really pleased with how much of SQL Server internals were exposed to the general public.Perhaps I liked the book so much because I'm working now on a propriatary database implementation, and for me it was really useful to learn how SQL Server is implemented. But any serious database developer should understand how query execution is planned, how records are locked, and what is a performance and storage cost of certain operations. And all these topics are presented in a best possible way.
Title: PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide
Publisher: Peachpit Press
Authors: Larry Ullman
Rating: 5/5
This is an excellent book. This book teaches what it claims to teach amazingly well. Well done Mr. Larry. And u know what? Larry Ullman also answers all your questions on the book's website. If u get stuck even on your first PHP script, Larry will personally help you in the forums. Now this is not what we normally get. A great book and FREE support on the website by the AUTHOR himself!!! WOW!!Amazon should give him Book of the Year award along with Julie Meloni's "PHP Essentials".If you are completely new to programming and you only know HTML and CSS and want to learn PHP (along with MySQL), "PHP Essentials" by Julie Meloni is the best book.If you have some basic programming experience like JavaScript or C or any similar language, then Larry's "PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide" IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!!!.This book does not teaches you the very basics of programming so if you are inexperienced in programming, get Julie's book... If u know a little programming, get Larry's book.Just excellent book.
Title: Web Database Applications with PHP & MySQL, 2nd Edition
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Hugh E. Williams
Rating: 5/5
Wouldn't it be great if you could get the source code for only $50 of a complete online store? You could start with a working system and modify it as you like, provided of course that it is well documented. In "Web Database Applications with PHP and MySQL" you have excellent documentation of a well-designed application with lots of extras like introductory tutorials, the reationales for design decisions and alternate implementations of many subsystems. The application is a fictional online wine store, with credit card payment, a shopping cart, merchandise browsing and searching, and automatic selection of the lowest prices in inventory. Security features include user authentication, password management, and hacker protection. Documentation this good is worth more than the source code, which by the way is fully printed out in the book and can be downloaded for free. This book has saved me lots of time!
Title: Apache Server for Dummies
Publisher: For Dummies
Authors: Ken A. L. Coar
Rating: 4/5
This book is a good book for exactly that, beginners, and even if you downloaded the apache software and read some of the on-line docs, you might be missing out on some things that you never even knew about, this is because it's hard to find a source on the internet that explains everything about a subject you want to read about in one concentracted place, instead it's spread all-over...So even if you have some experiance, I would recommend this book and then get a better one later, more advanced.Raymond....
Title: Murach's SQL for SQL Server
Publisher: Mike Murach & Associates
Authors: Bryan Syverson
Rating: 5/5
This book gets right to the meat of SQL Server and T-SQL code. It is clear, concise, and right to the point. This book would make an excellent text book for any SQL Class. Worth every penny.
Title: SQL In A Nutshell, 2nd Edition
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Kevin Kline, Daniel Kline, Brand Hunt
Rating: 5/5
This is a solid desk reference for SQL syntax which provides invaluable material on the portability of each type of statement. The heart of the book is the four hundred pages of statement reference. Each statement is described with it's syntax and options. Then the support for each database (DB2, MySQL, Oracle, PostgresSQL, and SQL Server) is described in detail. There is a similar 120 page reference on SQL functions.
This is classic O'Reilly. The text is well written, and the book is very dense and well organized. There is a little introductory material but the heart of the book is the statement and function reference. You will get the most out of this book if you already have a reasonable understanding of SQL. This is not a book for beginners.
This would make an ideal desktop reference, particularly for someone working in a cross-platform environment that goes directly to the SQL.
Title: The Sybase SQL Server Survival Guide
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Jim Panttaja, Mary Panttaja, Judy Bowman
Rating: 3/5
Pretty neat book ...with lot of helpful tips. Definitely for an advanced user only!! Good desktop reference to own. Don't get daunted by the small print of the book ( in comparison to some other Sybase books!! ) Takes reader through all the concepts of Database Administration and also servers as a ready reckoner.
Title: MCSE : SQL Server 7 Administration: Training Guide : Exam : 70-028 (MCSE

Rating: 4/5
This is a good book for people never touch SQL server before. This book will provide you a good lads. However, this book will not make you pass the exam 70-028. This book give you only 60% of necessary information. It didn't teach you T-SQL. Need extra material.
