I think Noel did a good job writing this book. The code is well laid out. Code is reusable, and above all it doesnt tie you lot into registering DLLs. The only minus is for not having the full code on the CD which is mentioned in the book.
Over all its a good reference for beginners to mid level programmers.

I knew nothing about SQL Server 2000 before picking up this book. It took me from knowing nothing to knowing quite a bit. The author has a relaxed writing style which made it easier for me to learn this subject.I looked at a lot of SQL Server 2000 books and at least from my perspective, this is the one to own. 1350 pages of great information makes it well worth the money. Get it!

The first one-third of this book contains information which a beginner like me may quickly but too hastily find very grateful. But the feeling of being grateful will soon give way to a feeling of disappointment and anger as inaccurate code begin to show up one after another, which will make you waste countless hours. If you buy this book and have to go through the same horrible time of frustration as I have, you will agree that the authors have not tested the codes, which may sound quite incredible to you. I do not understand how this book has gotten that many positive feedbacks. I sent e-mails to the publishers to inquire about the codes in the book which did not function. But I haven't heard yet.

After you have spent 8-80 hours trying random combo's on the Server Configuration panel trying to guess what you should do, buy this book and score a direct hit! Microsoft should bundle this book with SQL Server. If a little more detail were provided on the internal data structures of SQL Server one could write a bulk loader that bypassed SQL Server entirely (I know its been done by others) and load 10 X as fast. (hint-hint) This is the closest thing to a K&R for MS SQL Server I've ever seen. I really like the brevity of this book. Every word counts! Very, very good job Ken!

I've been using the book at home with Oracle 8.0.5 for linux and it has been very helpful - I'm an Oracle novice. I would have rated it higher, but the index and/or grouping of some of the concepts is not consistent. For example, one reader noted that the text refers you to chapter 11 to set your default editor - then does not tell you how to do this in chapter 11. As far as I could see, this is true - chapter 11 does not tell you how to do this - but in chapter 4 there is an *example* that shows how to do this (DEFINE _EDITOR = vi). I liked the sections on report and script writing, I thought they were concise yet easy to follow. Overall, I'd recommend the book to another newbie

This is the second joint project after the reference book e.encyclopedia was published in October 2003. Both books feature websites enhanced by Google. Keywords in this book direct children to exclusive DK/Google websites where they connect to pre-selected relevant and authoritative websites.
The DK/Google e.encyclopedia science website is free and children can access information once they have this book. Once they get to the sites they can watch videos, listen to sounds through sound buttons, take virtual tours, read real-time reports, access databases and take interactive quizzes.
There are 8 core sections to explain and explore over 220 science topics.

This has to be one of the most beautiful books DK has ever created. The colors are vibrant and the section on Space is bursting with spiral galaxies and pictures of space exploration. If you are interested in Volcanoes, you can turn to the Earth section. You can read about the eruption on Mount St. Helens and see pictures before and after volcanic eruptions.
In the Health Section, children can learn about exercise, hygiene and diet. I found the information on the futuristic nanorobots in the bloodstream fascinating.
Every section has a bold heading and interesting definition. Then, there are pages and pages of full-color pictures that can keep your attention for hours at a time. I wish we had owned a book like this when I was a child because it would have given me an information base to build on in future years. Although I must say, I think adults will find this equally fascinating. Children are always asking questions and now you can find all the answers, complete with pictures.

Wife got me this one for xmas. Have to say - I love it. Great great writing. Henderson has a knack for teaching. And I agree that t-SQL should be approached as a "real" language. That is the best part of the book, IMHO. That and the fact that it does not treat you like an idiot or repeat what you already know (or should know). Good stuff.

This book is really hard to understand for beginners. Topics jump all over places. It's so unorganized to follow. Trust Me this book is not for beginners.
